Having Faith Above Your Circumstance

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

Often in life when we are faced with seemingly massive obstacles, we start to wonder if God really does have a purpose for our lives.

Life sometimes happens in a random matter that defiles explanation. Intense or tragic events arise that leave us asking, "Why God?" As our lives seem to veer what we think would be out of control, we wonder if God is present or powerful enough to change our circumstance.

This past month, I've been studying the book of Job and wow.... talk about having the faith to live above one's circumstances. This man experienced situations that were not only difficult, but from our point of view seem downright unfair. Job lived through some of the most excruciating trials imaginable, facing one painful test after another. He endured horrors that few of us have ever or will ever experience. But, after many chapters, God spoke loudly to Job and reminded him who was in control.

We too need to be reminded that life is all about God. It's not about us. It's not about our comfort, our space, our rights, our will, our career, our plans, our home or our health. Instead, it's about God's glory, His majesty, His power and His desires for us. It's about His way, His will, and how He wants us to achieve His purpose in this world.

Making God the center of our lives does not mean that our trials and difficulties will immediately exit stage left, but it does mean that we can have true joy no matter what our circumstances are.

Once you adjust your life, making God your first priority, you'll be amazed at how the Lord will use you in others' lives.

Reach out to others. When someone with pain in their life walks in, don't walk out. You will be many things to them: A refuge, a point of hope, a reason to go on, a source of strength, a calming influence and so much more. God may choose to use you as a vehicle to help restore those who have strayed far. To help someone in distress, depressed, or despondent.

Those in this situation need two things. First, they need grace for the moment. They need to know that God is there, that He is listening and that He loves them. Second, they need hope for the future.

You may be the only bible that some will see. You may be the only person praying for them. This type of ministry is always a matter of the heart. If your heart is filled with watchful concern for people, you will be privileged to refresh many souls in need of encouragement.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
